Daily Description for Fabulous Summer Retreat

Day 1: Arrival. You will be met at the airport whenever you arrive and then transferred, about 45 minutes, directly to the charming, colonial city of Antigua where every block holds a magnificent view. In July the landscape is lush with flowers in full bloom in the Central Park and throughout the city creating breathtaking vistas. With its color, volcanic backdrops, colonial architecture, markets and fabulous boutiques, Antigua is a photographer’s and a shopper’s paradise. Our delightful Hotel Aurora is within steps of the loveliest and most exciting corners that Antigua has to offer.
As participants will be arriving at various times throughout the day, the afternoon and evening will be free to rest or to explore. There will be a set time and place for dinner for those who would like to join others. We will officially meet together as a group for breakfast on Day 2.

Day 2: After a delicious breakfast we will go by comfortable van to the beautiful and fascinating ecological enterprise (www.exvalhalla.net) where we can sample delicious macadamia products, have a facial and learn about a vision for easing the effects of poverty and global warming. Fifteen minutes further is the village of San Jose El Viejo, nestled at the foot of a majestic, inactive volcano. There, at the home of Laurie’s Mayan godchildren we'll have the opportunity to learn how to make tortillas, ask any questions and enjoy a delicious, typical "Chapin" lunch.

Warmed by delightful hospitality, we will continue on the approximately two hour picturesque drive to the colorful town of Panajachel on Lake Atitlan. We'll be rewarded with views of hillsides resplendent with flowers and crops while witnessing traditional life along the way. In Panajachel we will board a boat for the fifteen minute ride to the spectacular Villa Sumaya, (www.villasumaya.com) alluringly nestled on the lake shore and graced with the stunning view of three regal volcanoes. Situated at 4,500 feet above sea level it is a world-class retreat center and yoga facility with hardwood floors and a cascading waterfall in the midst of lush, tropical scenery - the ideal location in which to relax, unwind, and base ourselves for forays into various villages.

Days 3/4/5/6/7/8: Each day will begin with optional meditation and gentle R & R - Rejuvenation & Relaxation practices that incorporate ancient and contemporary well-being techniques from many traditions. For those who desire a vigorous yoga practice there will be both AM and PM sessions offered.

Throughout the week morning and afternoon sessions will be dedicated to Yoga Calm, Breathe The Change foundational breathwork and techniques for inspiring creativity and integrating a Peace Curriculum into one's daily life.

The Yoga Calm program is a unique blend of the traditional yoga practices of mindfulness, physical activity and nervous system regulation with social skills games and counseling techniques. Integrating fitness, social/emotional and cognitive learning into 5 to 40 minute processes, the program includes more than 60 activities specially designed for use in school and therapeutic settings. At the end of this training we will have the unique opportunity to practice the techniques in village schools. www.yogacalm.org

Every evening we will delight in a candle-lit, scrumptious, vegetarian (some chicken and fish) buffet. Each day will also offer free time activities including:
